Mega card making day

Last week one day I grabbed a pack of papers and decided to craft until I used all of the paper. It took a day of crafting spurts but in the end I had 16 completed cards….

and only a few small scraps.

The scraps went in my scrap box to be donated and the cards went into my card supply to be mailed to family and friends or sold in my Etsy store.

100_7940 Each card has multiple layers and most have additional embellishments besides paper and stamps. 100_7945

I took a heat gun to some of the ribbon to give is a curly look.

The wide red striped ribbon was originally white and red but I sprayed it with walnut ink to tone the color down a bit to match the papers better.

I like the thought that I used up one of the many paper packs I have but I still have a lot more paper just waiting to be made into the perfect card. Although I’m trying to use what I have, this paper pack didn’t quite provide all the room I need for the great cardstock pack I snagged at Tuesday Morning last week…..

I guess I can say I have the same number of paper packs…..

Chalkboard projects

I finished and listed chalkboard globe number 3 this week. Number 2 was shipped to a good home.

I have my eye on a globe on a stand at Goodwill, I think I might just have to get it to have a more unique chalkboard globe. Maybe a trip to see if it is still there will be on my agenda for tonight or this weekend.

My newest globe can be seen here with other great vintage finds.

It is also liked to a rather new blog called DIY or Don’t here. Sarah has a fun site where she shows you or links to tutorials for crafty items and also show you where you can buy them if you don’t want to make the items yourself. What a fun concept and I’m honored she choose my chalkboard globe for her site.

I snuck away to a few garage sales this morning but no luck finding anything fun to revamp and list in the shop. Hopefully I’ll have better luck later today or tomorrow if I get to a few garage sales. One persons trash can really be a treasure….

Goodbye and hello….

This week I had to say goodbye to my vintage chalkboard globe. I loved the look of this globe and was a little sad to see it sell.

I loved how this makeover turned out, especially the hammered aluminum finish on the metal frame.

But, I’m sure it will have a good home in Pennsylvania where it is going. Packing it up did help inspire me to finish my second chalkboard globe.

The frame on this globe was a bit different than globe number one.

The base is wood and I had a hard time deciding if I should paint it or not. In the end the hammered aluminum finish won out for both the plastic and the wood. It was nice to see 'Made in the USA’ on the bottom of the base.

I’m hoping to sell this globe as well and if so I do have globe number three in waiting. He however is still in it’s original colorful glory but I’m not afraid to paint it if when I say goodbye to globe number two.

I’m hoping to find a smaller globe in my price range. I think a 6” chalkboard globe would be a fun addition to my desk.

Before and afters

To the the gold on the original was just so bold and in your face, I didn’t like that but knew it would be an easy fix.

Paint and glaze does wonders. Now your eye can see the lovely ladies and cherubs and not be distracted by the gold. 100_7075 100_7076 100_7077

New thrifty makeovers

I’ve listed a few newly revamped items in my etsy store this week. Here are some of my latest projects.

This frame is thick but very lightweight. It is some sort of dense foam product. I had a hard time deciding if I should insert corkboard or chalkboard. Corkboard won out as I had more on hand. I think it was a good choice as it sold the same day I listed it.

I love this wood address box. If I didn’t already have a wish list box I think I’d keep it for that.

I’ve had this frame for a while and finally put a metal sheet in it and listed it as a magnetic memo board. I love the details of it.

I gave you a sneak peak of this frame when I started painting it. This one I decided would make a great chalkboard. I like the muted green color with the black chalkboard.

Pantone calls this Honeysuckle but I think of it more as Berry Pink, for some reason when I think of Honeysuckle I think light pink or light yellow, but then I guess I’m not too knowledgeable about flowers. It was in a Honeysuckle treasury with lots of other great pink products.

There was a small chip in the mirror and I couldn’t decide if I liked it as a mirror or a chalkboard better so I decided to give whoever buys it the choice. I think I like the chalkboard look but I’m not sure about having such a long skinny chalkboard.

I wasn’t sure when I found this mirrored shelf but I guess it was a good find. I shipped it off to MT within hours of listing it.

I guess the swirls and curls that grabbed me stood out to someone else.

This one is on its way to sunny Florida. I wish I could have fit myself in the package. I could use a little fun in the sun and sand. I guess I’ll have to settle for sun and snow…. it’s not near as fun.

I also tried something different. I listed a couple vintage leather trench coats that I rescued. I initially thought I would cut them up for more coasters but decided they were in too good of shape to immediately cut them up. Maybe someone out there will love them for their great vintage looks.

I’ve got a couple more jackets that I think I’ll list as well. I think they are in just too good of a condition to scavenge them for the leather.

Some have great details that you rarely find today.
