The power of paint

My painting time is extremely limited in the wintertime but I did recently finished revamping a few vintage pieces to list in my etsy store.

I shared some of the pictures with you in their original state here.

I painted two wall pockets with silver and then glazed them to tone down the silver.  They ended up looking like aluminum to me and I really liked the final results.

100_5754

Look at the detail of this piece – wonderful.

100_5755

One almost has a bronze look to it.

100_5756

I love the look I got with the glaze I used.

I think I’ll have to use it more often. 100_5757

I don’t know what I would put in it to not distract from its beauty.

 100_5759

I love this aqua accent mirror, it was another vintage piece that I updated with some paint and glaze.

100_5739  I coated this mirror in aqua with a light coating of some silver.100_5741

The glaze did wonderful things with the silver paint, making the glaze take on a silver grey tone.100_5742

I like that it toned down the aqua color to a more muted tone.

I fell in love with this fan shaped frame.

I had a hard time deciding what to put in the frame, finally deciding on a flocked vellum paper that I had on hand.

100_5751

How can you resist the bow on the top of the frame?

100_5747

A little crackling in the finish is a perfect compliment to the flocked paper.

100_5750

I love the different textures of the frame and the paper.

100_5752

Hopefully someone else will love these details just as much as I do.

I’m still trying find a place in my apartment for this mirror.

100_5771I love it but so far can’t find a place for it so it might end up in my etsy shop as well.

Just look at the details of this vintage frame.

100_5772

The glazing looks a lot darker in the above picture than it does in person.

I wish I could find more of this frame.100_5773

Don’t you love the old ladder and miscellaneous pictures and frames that are reflected in it??

Not the best idea but heck that is what  a corner of my bedroom currently looks like.  Frames just hanging around.

This frame is plastic if you can believe it.

Lightweight, detailed, and it had an unbroken mirror still in it.

It cleaned up beautiful with a fresh coat of paint, glaze and windex.

100_5775

My thrifting this week wasn’t too great but I did get a few frames and a couple smaller pieces that I plant to clean up and update with paint and glaze.

Ahh, the power of paint…

More Valentine cards

I can’t seem to stop making Valentine cards.  I don’t know what it is about them right now but I’ve been making lots of them.

Cleaning off my crafting area I left out a piece of scrapbooking paper.  It may be familiar, I’ve made and shown some other cards and crafts with pieces of this paper.

100_5802

One sheet of the 12 x 12 paper has 24 images so it can be used to create a lot of projects.

I gathered some other supplies that matched.  Cardstock, journaling notes and cards.

100_5801  I started by cutting all the images apart and mounting them on some burgundy scraps I had.

100_5803

Look at all the loveliness.

100_5804

I’ve had this package of Lengthy Notes for a couple years so it’s about time I use them up.  They are embossed and I ran a pink ink pad over them to bring out the embossing.

100_5806

I gathered a bunch of heart and Valentine stamps.

Some are foam, some wood mounted, some rubber on EZ Mount and some clear.  I think I have enough types, don’t you?

Wow, I can’t believe that I have the many to pick from.

100_5807

The Lengthy Notes are really meant to be one sided so I tried a couple layouts to keep an open space to stamp and write on.

100_5808

I made a variety of cards, none of them the same.

100_5809

I did add a sheet of pink cardstock to use up the last of the papers.

100_5811

Have you ever seen so much red, white and pink in one place?

100_5812

I remembered I had some small wire heart clips.

100_5813

One I attached by punching a few holes and running scrappers floss through them,

100_5814

Another one I attached more like a paperclip with a little tape behind it.

100_5816

I stuck a flower pin in one of the cards.

100_5815

I inked up a small paper doily and folded it a bit for this card.

 100_5817

100_5818

The journaling spots made a great accent behind the patterned papers.

100_5819

Can you tell this was the last card?  I didn’t want to cut up another sheet of cardstock so used three images on this card.

100_5820

Hmm, I really have way more Valentine cards than I need.

I think there is just over 50 in my container.

I hope that I really did use all of the Valentine themed paper that I have.  (Well at least all of it that I know where it is and can find it…. Who knows what I might find as I keep on trying to get a bit more organized and use my hoard, no, my slowly dwindling stash.)

The Lengthy Notes and a few others don’t really fit in this box so I either have to send them all out or find another box to store them in.

100_5821

If I get a bigger box will I just make more cards to fill it up??

Hmm, maybe I better stick with this size box after all.

Do you send out many Valentine cards?

$3 Thursday – Memory frame necklace

I haven’t been feeling too creative lately.

Maybe this is why.

100_5786

Yep, that was my main crafting area.

Hmm, is there really a desk under there?

100_5785

To be fair I had started moving things around a bit before I took the pictures so it wasn’t quite this bad to begin with, pretty close but there was more work area showing.

I decided to just spend time cleaning up my crafting area.

Along the way I found these Memory Frames I bought a while ago.

I have seen lots of great things done with them and wanted to try them.

100_5795

Even the box of the glass pieces shows a great necklace with them.

100_5796

Last week I cut a floral scrap to the size of the frame.

I didn’t do anything else at the time beside put the paper.  Could it be I stopped there because I couldn’t find the ball chain to make it into a necklace???  Hmm, maybe.

100_5794

Today I realized I needed another scrap for the other side of the frame.

I cut a striped piece of paper.  It has a distressed, muted look that I love. 100_5789

I grabbed a few layers of flowers and a rhinestone brad for the center.

100_5793

I love the layered look of the flowers.

100_5791

The more neutral side.

100_5792

And the more colorful side.

100_5790

One of the best things about these frames is that all you need to do is cut paper to size if you want.  There is a hinge closure, not glue or jewelry supplies needed.

Two great necklaces from one frame.

100_5797

I wear lots of green and I think I’ll have a hard time deciding what side to showcase.

100_5798

Besides a finished necklace I also have a clean work space.

100_5787

The only thing I’m not too happy with is the ‘in progress’ box that I made out of a painted clementine box.  With the large piece of paper it is blocking easy access to my embellishments in the holder behind it.

100_5788

I think I have a solution.  A tray on top of some plastic drawers might be a better spot for my ‘in progress’ projects.  Then again, I’m usually a out of site, out of mind type of crafter and have been know on occasion, to have more than one project going at once.

Who am I kidding?   I always have numerous projects going.

100_5799

Well, for now I’m going to enjoy by clean work space.

Maybe it will usher in lots of creative inspiration.

A clean workspace and

100_5800

a two in one necklace.

What would you do…… with these?

Going through my hoard, stash, yep stash sounds better.

I came across a box of round metal tins.

100_5780

Hey, I knew they were there, after all they are all together in one box with a label, nonetheless.  See, I can be a bit organized at times.

100_5781

What was I thinking when I bought all of these?

100_5782

Who am I kidding?

I used some so really I bought a lot more than I have left.

24 of them in three different sizes.  I don’t want to think of how many I actually bought.  I’m really trying to stop buying stuff just because it is on sale and I ‘might’ have a use for it someday.  I’m learning ‘somedays’ rarely come.

Now, what to do with the rest of them?

I decided they would be a ‘Use it or Loose it’ craft item.  I couldn’t immediately think of something to do with them so I was going to put them in my giveaway box but I thought I would ask you crafty folks….. What would you do with them?

   100_5784

Any ideas?  Or should I just pass them on?

The labels show them as storage for beads but I wouldn’t recommend that.

I should tell you the covers are not very secure so I really think storing items in them is a good option.  The last thing I want is to store some small items in them only to tip them over and the small pieces are all over the place.  Not that it has ever happened to me. :)

I think I originally bought them to store items in them or to make them into mini ornaments so that is not something I would make with them.  Been there, done that.

I guess if I don’t get any great idea it is time to pass them on.

I’m sure someone else might have the perfect use for them.

My current ‘Loose it’ box is getting pretty full.  Just take a peek, scraps, stickers, 6 x 6 album with sample pages to name a few things.

000_0001

Hey, what is that???

Is that a tin already in the ‘Loose it’ box?

000_0002

Yep, it sure is.

Maybe I should let them have a quite goodbye,

and pass them on.
