$3 Thursday–Pattern covered frame

I’ve been absent a bit lately as I haven’t been feeling too creative. I knew I wanted to post something so I took a few pictures of a couple frames I made a few weeks ago.

I started with some simple wooden frames that I’ve had in my ~~stash~~ supply for a while. I’m talking a few years at least.

I think I paid $1 or $2 for each of them. I’m sure I had grand plans for them but I like the vintage feel of these.

I cut up old patterns that I picked up for free and used Mod Podge to glue it to the frame.

I used multiple layers, probably 2-4 layers of the pattern on some parts of the frame.

A great thing about these frames is the dowel that can stand the frame up in two ways.

I tied on a bunch of seam binding that I crinkled up.

I love the graphic nature that the multiple layers of the pattern gives.

I decided that one of the frames would be a good addition to my hall cabinet that is decorated with vintage games.

I think the vintage feel of the frame and the coloring helps it blend right in.

The picture is actually packaging from some chipboard accents.

Supplies:

Wood frame $1-$2

Pattern free

Mod Podge Craft Supply

Seam Binding Craft Supply

Total Cost: About $2 per frame

This was a fairly quick and easy craft. I think it took less than an hour to make the two frames. I kept setting it aside for 5-10 minutes and then took a fresh look at them to see if I where I wanted to add more layers to the frames.

Once dry I used scissors to trim away the excess pattern from the back of the frames.

Wedding cards

I haven’t been too crafty lately but I did make a few cards that I though I’d share.

I’ve had a few request for wedding cards and with summer and wedding season just around the corner I made a few wedding cards to add to my stock of cards.

For this card I cut a 12” x 12” piece of double sided paper in half and scored to make a 6” x 4 1/2” card. I used a border punch to detail the edge of the paper and folded it over to the front of the card.

I used the other half of the paper for this card with the ribbon through the center of the flower.

I trimmed the paper a bit for this card so more of the patterned paper was showing. The couple is very light on the grey side of the paper and I added a bit of bling with some glittered flower accents.

The inside of all the cards has a wedding verse on the inside.

Birthday cards

I always seem to need a few more birthday cards so I dug deep into my stash and made a few cards with some stamps that haven’t been used for a while.

I did some more coloring with chalk pencils on these pigs.

The inside of the above card has the ‘Someone squealed, it’s your birthday’ stamp. I bought that stamp to go with this pig set. I just couldn’t resist it when I saw it.

I wanted to make a few more kid friendly cards and recently thought of using some game cards on them.

A small vellum envelope holds the cards perfectly.

I included a variety of game and activity cards.

I know I’ve had them for many years. I remember buying them with the thought of taking them with on car trips with my daughter. I guess that never happened. The store that I bought them at has been gone for many years too.

I was about to donate them when I thought that they would make a funny addition to an adults get well card. I think I might still make a get well card with them but I loved the child’s birthday card idea too.

So if you see some game cards think outside the box they came in and make a card or two and share the fun….. :)

Winters cruel joke…. and a few cards

The calendar may say spring for about a month now but it doesn’t mean that winter is over. I can’t believe this was what I woke up to this morning, snow.

I know it can snow in April but still it hurts. You see, originally I heard a forecast of a couple inches of snow then yesterday it seemed to change and the evening news forecast seemed to say we wouldn’t get any snow it would mainly be south of where I live. So, needless to say I was surprised to see 3” of snow on the ground.

At least it is melting and should be mostly gone today.

Snow means inside crafts so here is a few of my latest card creations.

These were fairly quick and easy with a couple sheets of cardstock and a sheet of patterned paper. I used some punches, ribbon and a few rhinestones. 100_7133

Happy Earth Week - {Eco Friendly Purse}

A thrift store in a neighboring town advertized a re-purpose contest for earth day. I thought, hey, I’m re-purposing all the time, I can make something to enter. Who knows, maybe I can win the $50 gift card they are giving away. Can you imagine how much stuff you can get at a thrift store for $50?

I had to try to win it.

I had a few ideas on what I was going to make but the week before the item was due I got so sick and tired that I had a hard time making anything.

I had told one of my sisters about the contest and I knew what she was entering so if I wanted a chance at winning I knew I really needed to step and and enter something good. I gave it my best shot and completed a purse that I cut out a month or more before.

The whole purse is made from thrift and recycled materials.

I used a leather jacket, a shirt and a belt.

I cut it out so I could use one of the front pockets from the jacket on the outside of the purse.

I think I’m really going to like having a pocket on the outside of the purse.

My daughter had this fun retro looking shirt with a mushroom pattern that was beyond repair.

I loved the pattern so kept the shirt knowing one day I’d use the material.

The handle was a belt I picked up free at a garage sale for the D-rings.

I love the rustic look of this purse and the buttery soft leather it is made from. 100_6843

I think this will be one of a whole lot of bags I make from the ever growing collection of leather and suede jackets I have.

I’m not sure if I’ll win the earth day re-purpose contest but either way I win, I’ll have a new to me purse and feel good that is a completely eco friendly purse. It’ll be nice however if I have a purse and $50.
