The Blue Vase….. by Paul Cezanne

I don’t own a lot of what I would classify as ‘art’ but today I added a Paul Cezanne print to my collection.  Well at least temporarily.  I listed it in my etsy store but for now I get to enjoy it.

100_6326It is called The Blue Vase.  The original was painted around 1885!100_6330

Lovely colors, look at this blue .

100_6324

And a frame that is just as lovely.

100_6319

I’m not sure what spoke to me more, the colors or the frame.

 100_6325

I like them both.

100_6327  100_6328

The two together are very striking.

100_6329I feel so grown up with a little bit of ‘art’ in my apartment.

  100_6331

Even if it is a print, it looks like great to me.

100_6332

The back had a stamp from Art Publishers of Cincinnati Ohio.

I can’t find anything on them so I’m not sure how old this print is but it really doesn’t matter.  For now I have some ‘art’.

100_6324

It looks like a canvas and has small almost delicate looking detail around the frame.

100_6320

I told myself I would try to sell it in my etsy store but if it doesn’t sell anytime soon I won’t be all that disappointed.

Hey I have the Mona Lisa and now The Blue Vase.

I wonder what is next?

Krafty Kat what have you gotten me into?

I really haven't made any spring crafts yet but I keep getting inspired by Krafty Kat's blog.
Krafty Kat what have you gotten me into?
First I saw this great bleach designed tee last week.

I've seen a couple bleach designs and knew I wanted to try it.
Add bleach pen to my shopping list.  I've been really trying to not buy craft items though.  Hey, I can imagine it is for laundry right?

I wasn't really ready to make Easter crafts but then I checked out Kraft Kat's blog again and what did I see?  This made my jaw drop.
Check out this tree.

I can't believe this is not real chocolate eggs.
I really need to make this.
Add cone, moss and plastic eggs to my list.  I really don't think I can pass them off as laundry related though.....

Oh, then I came across this.

These look pretty real too.  I want to reach out and take a bit of an ear.
Isn't that just one of the iconic Easter images?
A chocolate bunny with a bit out of the ear?
I think I'm digging through my brown leather stash to find just the right chocolate color to make myself a bunny or two that won't add to my waistline.
Add more plastic eggs and Easter grass to my list.  Definitely not laundry related.

Maybe I can make something more spring and less Easter.
Sure, check out this spring nest complete with eggs.

Really I already was looking at a small ball of twine at the dollar store last week but this makes it a necessity.
Add ball of twine to my list.  Hopefully I'll have enough eggs already that I don't have to add them to my list again.

Maybe I'm so thrilled with the prospect of making some spring crafts because it snowed again!
We got four inches of snow Sunday and it looks like more is on the way for the middle of the week.
Mr. Groundhog I'm not too happy with you.
Spring, spring, where are you?
Not outside so I guess I better make it feel like spring inside by making some spring crafts.
I have been eyeing my daughter's green wool jacket from last year.  She hasn't worn it and says she won't wear it so I'm thinking it might not be a jacket for long.

If you like these ideas please check out Krafty Kat's blog for these and other great crafts.

Vintage Look hidden Chocolate book

I wanted to make a project for a stamping event I’m going to tomorrow and this is what I came up with.  A book with a chocolate center.  What could be better?
100_6300
100_6307
I used a copy of an old picture I had.  I cut, tore and distressed it a bit more.
100_6301
It is a bit hard to see but I stamped “All you need in life is a friend who has chocolate…I’m that friend”.
100_6302
I used some ivory flowers.
100_6303
A cameo I rescued from a dollar store hair band, then painted and distressed.
100_6304
Ribbon to tie the book shut.
100_6306
I punched holes for the ribbon and wrapped twine around it to give the ribbon a bit more vintage feel.
 100_6311
A few chocolate goodies tucked inside.  M & M’s and Reese’s.  Chocolate and peanut butter…. mmm.
100_6308
I wrapped a bit of the  twine around the picture too.
100_6309
The background paper is stamped and inked.
100_6310Eyelets for the ribbon closure.
100_6312
I think I’d like a whole library of books like this one.

I didn’t think to take pictures in progress… maybe this is why:
100_6313
I started out with text background paper and paper CD holders.
100_6314
I planned to make a mini album like this one.
100_6315
This one had three folders but you can get numerous pages with accordion inserts.
100_6317
Then I changed my mind to this Maya Road chipboard book.
I cut the pages out of the book and half of them apart.
Somehow the project that started out as a mini album turned into a secret chocolate stash book.  Oh well, I guess it is the final results that usually count.
100_6300
Funny thing….. That is my Mom on the left.   Can you believe that she doesn’t like chocolate?  Well, I should say she doesn’t like milk chocolate, she does eat some dark chocolate.  I on the other hand prefer milk chocolate to most dark chocolate.
I’ll eat most chocolate, especially when there is peanut butter with it.

$3 Thursday - Peep Show

I’ve been seeing Peeps in the stores for a while and with the exception of one box of Valentine hearts I’ve stayed away…. until yesterday.

I just couldn’t resist and bought two boxes when I was at the grocery store.  I would have probably bought more but I wanted to keep on my budget and I only planned on picking up a few items.

100_6276

So I gathered a few supplies and created my own Peep show display, safely behind jars.

I gathered some jars of various sizes.

100_6266

My Peeps and some holiday marshmallows I haven’t used yet.

100_6267 And then I started with layering them in the jars.

100_6271
I thought the green made a great ‘grass’ for the Peeps to stand on in the widest jar.

100_6272

I filled the center with the pink stars.

There was one too many purple bunnies for the large jar and I’m proud to say it made it into another jar instead of my mouth.  I had visions of taking a picture with an ear cut off. :)

100_6270

The display wasn’t quite right so I found some ribbon.

100_6273

Ah, that is more like it.  A small finishing touch to the top of the jars.

100_6276

100_6275

It still needed a little something so I got out a plastic doily that I had on hand to set the jars on that.  Better.

100_6278

I love the swirly details of this doily with the spring colors.

100_6279

I wish I could say this counter will stay this clean but it looks nice and neat… for now.

100_6280

My own Peep Show… safely behind bars jars.

Hopefully this will help them last a bit longer than an open box.

That is just an invitation to grab one or two every time I pass it.

Supplies:

Various size jars            craft supply

2 boxes Peeps @ $.89              $1.78

Bag and half of marshmallows        on hand, I think $.50 or less a bag after Christmas

Ribbon             craft supply

Doily              craft supply

Total Cost:   $2.53

Time:  quick and easy

Notes:  I think next time I’d buy more Peeps and put them all in jars in a more random fashion.  I’m sure I’ll buy more Peeps and refill the jars.

Now you can create your own Peep show in a jar.

Recent thrifty finds

I haven’t shared many of my thrifty finds lately so thought it was time to post some.  Here are some of my finds from this week.

It was quite a box of goodies.

100_6255

A large wall pocket, a couple taper holders and some frames.

100_6254

I’m not sure but it looks like the wall pocket has has two makeovers already.  It was tan on the inside…

100_6256

and a light purple on the outside.  Purple, really?   I’m glad that I don’t have a home that I light purple wall pocket would fit in.

100_6258

I must be channeling my inner Donna, I found another Syroco piece.  This one a taper holder.  I love the details of this piece and the fact that it holds two candles.

100_6259

I looked at a pair of these frames last week but wasn’t sure how easy it would be to turn into a corkboard or chalkboard because of the backing.  This week there was only one left and it was half off so I knew I needed to grab it.  I’ll figure out how I will transform this frame and hang it later.

 100_6261

Look at the details.  This frame is plastic not wood but I sometimes like that as they are so lightweight and easier to hang with 3M Command Adhesive strips.

100_6262

I found some great metal frames too.

100_6263

I especially love the details of the smaller one.  The larger ones have a sort of funny texture that I thought was just grease and dust but I couldn’t get it to come off when I cleaned it.  I might try to soak them for a longer time to see if I can get a smoother finish.

100_6264 I don’t usually pick up pillar holders but this one just called to me.  I love the fact that it is graduated for different size candles.  It is 6 inches wide.

100_6265

It is cold today, below zero this morning and not warm enough for me to get out the spray paint.  Tomorrow it is suppose to be around 30 so I might just try to get a little painting dome on my recent finds so I can use them around my apartment of list them in my etsy store.

I did list a couple fun, retro owl items today.

100_6185

This ceramic owl that I painted solid white.

100_6234

This owl called out to me this past summer.  I couldn’t resist but it did need to go into quarantine for quite a while because of all the bug holes in it.  I didn’t want to bring any critters into my apartment.

What thrifty finds have you found lately?
